What Is PP (Polypropylene)?
PP is a thermoplastic material obtained by the polymerisation of the propylene monomer, distinguished by its light weight, durability and resistance to high temperatures. Thanks to its low density, it reduces packaging weight while delivering safe and efficient solutions without compromising mechanical strength.
Its structure, resistant to moisture, oils and many chemicals, makes PP particularly suitable for food packaging, ready-meal containers and industrial packaging applications. Its easy formability, availability in different sizes and forms, and the ability of suitable product types to withstand thermal processes give it a wide range of uses.
Key Properties of PP
- Thanks to its low density, it is a light and economical material.
- It is resistant to impact, bending and mechanical stress.
- It forms an effective barrier against moisture and water vapour.
- It shows resistance to oils, acids and many chemicals.
- It maintains its form and functionality at high temperatures.
- It is suitable for thermoforming and various forming applications.
- It can be used in the production of food-contact packaging.
- Suitable product types can withstand pasteurisation, microwave and sterilisation processes.
